Without the American F.A. Jones, there would be no IWC today. Following his founding of the company in Schaffhausen in 1868, he also left the genetic code, so to speak, that has been revived in the F.A. Jones Portuguese. Back then, Jones started out with half a dozen basic movements in several different versions. These have gone down in watchmaking history as the Jones calibres and, apart from their extremely high quality standards, have one conspicuous feature in common: an elongated index which is used for precision setting of the balance count: the ones arrow as it is sometimes called. This reaches from the balance cock down to the three-quarter plate. Today, IWC watches with the Jones calibre are very much in demand as collector's item. The F.A. Jones Portuguese, unveiled in 2005, is available worldwide in a limited edition of 500 watches in platinum, 1000 in 18 ct. rose gold and 3000 in stainless steel.
