In a masterful reinterpretation of solar and lunar magic, Jaquet Droz launches La date Astrale, a new watch with a retrograde date complication symbolizing hope and new beginings.

Since the 18th century, the magnificent creations of Manufacture Jaquet Droz have figured as consummate expressions of the watchmaker's art. Its founder Pierre Jaquet Droz amazed the courts of Europe with his stupefying mechanical figures and presented his timepieces to Marie-Antoinette, queen of France. Today, this fabulous heritage continues to inspire the Manufacture's ingious craftsmen in La-Chaux de Fonds.

But history, like time and human genius, never stops. In honour of its third manufacture, opened in 1784 in Geneva, Jaquet Droz announces the launch of La Date Astrale, an exclusive new model with a retrograde date function. The superlative modernity, design and mechanical performance of this exceptional watch give it distinctive boldness. Yet, at the same time, it remains true to brand codes.

This black opaline dial with a satin finish is adorned by the sun, elected by Louis XIV as his royal symbol. Located slightly off-centre, the heart of the sun is concealed by the hours -minutes subdial. The Roman numerals have the sleek, self-assured elegance of values certain of their ability to trascend time.

La Date Astrale is endowed with a date retrograde complication, with a diamond pointer to indicate the date as time goes by. In a poetic dialogue between day and night, indused with hope and renewal, the astral diamond resurrects the first day of the month at midnight, twelve times a year. This is an implicit ptomise by the Manufacure from La Chaux de Fonds, a vow and a vocation, to start anew for each creation and win over the connoisseur once again. A promise sealed with the secret clover leaf signature.

To win the connoisseur's confidence, Jaquet Droz mobilises all of its technical and creative forces, starting with the self-winding mechanical movement, the smooth=polished steel case finished by hand, the cambered crystal and the engraved crown. It's as if, in making La Date Astral, the craftsmen at Jaquet Droz had but a single obsession: to combine the maginc of celestial bodies with the hope engendered by the rebirth of each month. As if they were echoing the words of Aristotle, uttered over two thousnad years ago:" Hope is a waking dream."

Jaquet Droz is pleased to announce two new additions to its "Hommage London1774" Collection: the Grande Heure Minute medium rehaute and the Grande Heure Minute medium email. In doing so, the Manufacture has struck a fabulous alliance between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Some people would call this a beautiful story, others a dream come true. Either way, the creations of the Manufacture's founder Pierre Jaquet Droz were always the stuff of legends. The son of peasants from the Swiss Jura Mountains, he started in 1738 a manufactuer that still bears his name. A watchmaking genius and a hard worker, he also produced musical snuffboxes, mechanical singing birds, and three spectacular humanoid automata ("The Musician", "The Artist", and :The Draughtsman") that established his reputation for exhilerating creativity. A man of vision, he was also ambitious and self-confident, opening a workshop in London in 1774.

The "Hommage London1774" collection was inspired by a sucess story rooted on the European Continent but also in London, which was then the cultural, economic, and political capital of an empire spanning the earth. The Grande Heure Minute medium presides over this collection, like a Muse. Its centered hours-minutes subdial is partnered by an off-centered seconds subdial at nine o'clock. The sweep of the seconds hand animates the handsome face of this exceptional timpiece at all times.

True to its reputation for inventiveness, drawing on springs of creativity that never runs dry, Jaquet Droz is presenting two new models, the Grande Heure Minute medium rehaut and the Grande Heure Minute medium email, in a Numerus Clausus edition limited to 88. Distinctive for their purity of design and generous size (41mm), both of these timepieces possess the understated beauty of a classic men's watch as well as bold, contemporary minimalism. It is a consummate expression of the codes that made Jaquet Droz famous, including the smooth-polished case, self-winding mechanical movement and secret signature.

Stunning and mysterious, the Grande Heure Minute medium rehaute explores myriad watchmaking possibilities via shapes, material, and contrasts. Apllied roman numerals of black steel add an architectural component to the three-dimensional beauty of tis design by setting up a subtle interaction between the materials, the light and opaline dial. The small, brushed-steek subseconds subdial at nine-o'clock and its applied ring reinforce the graphic fullness of the Grande Heure Minute medium rehaute. Black matte surfaces engage in a chronomatic dialogue with glossy metal, as the smoothness of the dial contrasts with volumes forged from steel. This handsome watch is a poetic statement of the watchmaker's art, firmly anchored in the third millennium.

This timepiece summarizes what is most precious in watchmaking and its pure lines defy fickle fashion. The Grande Heure Minute medium email grants each passing instant elegance and modernity, two values at the core of the Jaquet Droz identity. Its "grande feu" enamelled dial is a feat of technical prowess courtesy of the master dial-makers at the Manufacture. It is like a blank page on which fleeting moment writes history. It has a finely textured surface where blued steel hands encounter delicately stylised Roman numerals. At nine o'clock, the seconds hand sweeps around the outer circle of the subdial, the enamel finely marked. It's like a game where black meets pure ivory. Black diamonds, pink or blue sapphires, amethysts and tsavorites: "La Fleur de Lotus" is a fabulous orchestration of sparkle and colour. This show has been impeccably choreographed by the master setters responsible for hand-mounting gemstones—one by one and by the hundred—on the black or white lacquer of the dial. Mounted in white gold, these exuberant precious stones offset the classical elegance of hour-minute indicators with their Roman numerals and lancine hands of blued steel or white gold.



"La Fleur de Lotus" is at once a fabulous piece of jewellery and an outstanding watch. The 39mm 18-carat white gold case contains a self-winding mechanical movement featuring a double barrel and a 22-carat white gold oscillating weight. With a power reserve of 68 hours, each watch is water-resistant to 30 meters and comes with a black or white rolled-edge hand-made alligator strap.
